Alien (Hold On To Your Dreams)

Gil Scott-Heron, 1980

From the posthumous 2014 acoustic album Nothing New

Gil Scott Heron 1949-2011

Midnight near the border trying to cross the Rio Grande
Runnin' with coyotes to where the streets are paved with gold
You're diving underwater when you hear the helicopters
Knowing it's all been less than worthless if you run into patrols
Hiding in the shadows, so scared you want to scream
But you dare not make a sound if you want to hold on to your dreams

Hold on. Though it may not be a lot, you got to
Hold on. Cause you know it's all you got
No matter the consequences or the fear that grips your senses
You have got to hold on to your dreams.

City of the Angels with its bright light fascination
Only adds to the confusion that your mind must now endure
The gringos take advantage when they know that you're illegal
Bot you void la policĂa like a plague that can't be cured
Paying la mordida you find out just what pollo means
But you dare not file complaints if you want to hold on to your dreams

Hold on. Though it may not be a lot, you got to
Hold on. Cause you know it's all you got
No matter the consequences or the fear that grips your senses
You have got to hold on to your dreams.

Down at Western Union sending cash back to your family
Or drinking down cerveza where the lights are very low
Your mind may start to wander when you think about your village
Or the woman that you love so much who's still in Mexico
At just two bucks an hour there is little to redeem this life
Except that in your mind you're tryin' to hold on to your dreams

Hold on. Though it may not be a lot, you got to
Hold on. Cause you know it's all you got
No matter the consequences or the fear that grips your senses
You have got to hold on to your dreams.

The Postman Always Rings Twice

A married woman and a drifter fall in love, then plot to murder her husband. Once the deed is done, they must live with the consequences of their actions.

The Postman Always Rings Twice is a 1946 drama-film noir based on the 1934 novel of the same name by James M. Cain. This adaptation of the novel features Lana Turner, John Garfield, Cecil Kellaway, Hume Cronyn, Leon Ames, and Audrey Totter. It was directed by Tay Garnett in 1946.

This version was the third filming of The Postman Always Rings Twice, but the first under the novel's original title and the first in English. Previously, the novel had been filmed as Le Dernier Tournant (The Last Turning) in France in 1939, and as Ossessione (Obsession) in Italy in 1942.

We Are Normal

Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band

From the album The Doughnut in Granny's Greenhouse, 1968

We, We are (ar ar ar ar ar...)
We, We are...

And, uh, here come some normals...
They look like normal... Hawaiians
Well, uh, you didn't mention what month
You think you're normal?
Yes, quite normal
OK, here comes one
Go inside! (tee hee hee)
Well it's, ah, it's not for me to deter really, is it? I mean
It's for a psychiatrist to deter these things, isn't it?
I like dehre food, and dey arr veddy nice people
Ooh, itsalright, innit?
That a face?
Smart. Short back and sides
Oh, they're just typically normal
No! This is not manly!
Well, it is unusual. Well, it's like a rabbit! He's got a head on him like a rabbit!
I don't know, it's just not like normal people do
You're not runnin' around in your underpants are you?

We are normal and we want our freedom
We are normal and we want our freedom

Wir sind gewhnlich, wir sind zufrieden

We are normal and we dig Bert Weedon, ha ha!

We are normal and we want
Our freedom
Our freedom
Freedom!
Freedom!
Freedom!
We are normal and we want our freedom!

The Sanity Assassin

Bauhaus

From Burning From the Inside, 1983

Bauhaus: Peter Murphy, David J, Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins

Sinister echoes clutching at straws
Letter boxes screaming
You try to pin him to the wall
You end up on the ceiling
Locked in a dome
The shadows flicker by
He's the madcap pusher
Delerium the drug he's dealing

He drops a capsule in your drink
And spikes your dreams with madness

He's the sniper in the hills
Hiding the holes in your head
He's the poison in your poison
The razor in your head
Hanging on a picture
Eyelid needle and thread
You empty yourself once again
But he's always one step ahead
He whispers in your ear
was it nothing that you said
He's walking in your sleep now
He keeps your fat paranoia well-fed

He drops a capsule in your drink
And spikes your dreams with madness

The sanity assassin
Stays up all night stalking
The sanity assassin
Picks off victims like flies
The sanity assassin
Let his fingers do the walking
The sanity assassin
The crack shot between your eyes
He's got you in his sights

He drops a capsule in your drink
And spikes your dreams with madness

The razor in your head
He's the poison in your poison

Drops a capsule in your drink
[repeat]

Something Came Over Me

Throbbing Gristle

From the album Music From the Death Factor, 1981

Something came over me
Something came over me
And I don’t know what it was
No I don’t know what it was
Was it white and sticky?
Was it white and sticky?
Well I don’t know what it was
No I don’t know what it was

Something came over me
Something came over me
And I don’t know what it was
No I don’t know what it was
But I rather like it
Yes I rather like it
So I’m doing it again
Yes I’m doing it again

Something came over me
Something came over me
And I don’t know what it was
No I don’t know what it was
Was it white and sticky?
Was it white and sticky?
Well I don’t know what it was
No I don’t know what it was
But I rather like it
Yes I rather like it
So I’m doing it again
Yes I’m doing it again

Something came over me
Something came over me
Was it white and sticky?
Was it white and sticky?
Something came over me
Something came over me
And I don’t know what it was
No I don’t know what it was
Was it white and sticky?
Was it white and sticky?
And I don’t know what it was
No I don’t, don’t, don’t, don’t, don’t know what it was
Mummy didn’t like it
And my daddy didn’t like it
But I do it anyway
Yes I do, do, do, do, do it anyway
Do it anyway
Do it anyway
Do it anyway
Yes I do, do, do, do, do it anyway
Something came over me
And if something comes over you
Well do it anyway
Yes do, do, do, do, do it anyway
Do it anyway
Do it anyway
Do it anyway
And that’s the message for today
And if it’s white and sticky
And if it’s white and sticky
Well do it all again
Keep doing, doing, doing, doing, doing it again
Doing it again
Doing it again
Do it all again
And that’s the message, the message, the message from Gen

Something came over me
And if something goes over you
Do it anyway
Just do, do, do, do, do it anyway
Do it anyway
Do it anyway
Do it anyway
Just do, do, do, do, do it anyway

A Minor Aversion

The Saints

From the album Eternally Yours, 1978

Pie Fight from the American television series Route 66 following the adventures of two young drifters across America, 1960-64).

I've taken all I can
I'm not going to stand here
& be walked on anymore
'cause I don't need you
these days your facts
they don't mean a thing
You think I am going to walk the line
believe your lies all the time
you don't make me your fool anymore
I've waited so long
you kept me here

with all the lies you told
You think that I will stay the same
you think you got me
Don't you know this thing can't last
Don't you know that time will pass
your dreams are not your own anymore
I've waiting for too long
I've been watching & I'm not wrong
I'm not waiting anymore

(This) Perfect Day

The Saints, 1978

Don't talk to me about what you done
Ain't nothing has changed it all goes on
And they'll keep laughing till the end

I've seen them drive around in cars
All look the same get drunk in bars
And don't talk back we got no social rights

Oh perfect day
What more to say?
Don't need no one to tell me what I don't already know

We got no high times always flat
If you go out you don't come back
It's all so funny I can't laugh

Oh perfect day
What more to say?
Don't need no one to tell me what I don't already know

Don't talk to me about what's you done
Ain't nothing has changed it all goes on
And they'll keep laughing till the end

Oh perfect day
What more to say?
I don't need no one to tell me what I don't already know

Don't need nothin'
Don't need no one
I don't need nothin', nothin' at all

Wild About You

The Saints, 1976

You make me feel just like a savage
Honey, running through the jungle after you
I'm like a wild man on a rampage
Yeah, I found the safari, babe, but where are you?

I feel like a horrible creature
But, honey, I don't want to scare you
Yeah, you look so good I could eat you
But I won't kiss a steak so I won't eat you

I'm wild about the way-out clothes you wear
Your pretty dresses, your teased-up hair
You laugh at me since I'm staring at you
Honey, laugh at me, but you're lovin' it too

'Cause you're wild and I'm wild about you
You're wild and I'm wild about you
Come on!

Oh baby, you're so wild
I'm gonna make you mine
I'm gonna comin' to getcha
Right now

You make me feel just like a savage
Baby, running through the jungle after you
I'm like a wild man on a rampage
Yeah, I found the safari, babe, but where are you?

I feel like a horrible creature
But honey, I don't want to scare you
Yeah, you look so good that I could eat you
But I won't kiss a steak so I won't eat you

I'm wild about the way-out clothes you wear
Your pretty dresses, your teased-up hair
You laugh at me since I'm staring at you
Honey, laugh at me, but you're lovin' it too

'Cause you're wild and I'm wild about you
You're wild and I'm wild about you
Come on!

Yes you're wild - but what can I do?
Yes you're wild - I can't stand it!
Yes you're wild - I'm goin' insane!
Yes you're wild!

Simple Love

The Saints

From the album Monkey Puzzle, 1981

I'm talking but I can see
There's no one in front of me
My eyes can't deny
I'm staring at an empty sky

Listen to what I say
Take a look at what I've done
I don't need anyone
And you don't come around
And love lies on the ground

Midnight at the Leper's home
All the creatures start to roam
Little girls in uniform
Are talking on the telephone
To someone from the twilight zone

And your simple love will always save me
While the world around me is going crazy

So listen to what I say
Take a look at what I've done
I don't need anyone
And you don't come around
And love lies on the ground

Bonus

The Saints - Call It Mine - 1980

She told me I'm running
I got no feelings inside
If I were to come in
Would you take me for a ride
Because I am learning to hide
What I feel inside
It"s nothing
It always seemed such a shame
The wild man is insane he has no feelings inside
To be wild to be insane
Makes me feel that I am alive
I am running
& I am hiding
I am looking
Until I find something deep inside
Maybe on the edge of time they'll call it mine
Because I am learning to hide
What I feel inside
It"s nothing
It always seemed such a shame
What do you think that you are trying to so
hard to prove
Your face is a mask that proves you can
live with fools
I've been there I've seen it
Still I'm not satisfied
I am running & I am hiding
I am looking
Until I find something deep inside
