Treasures of Modern China

Here are a few Chinese films I watched recently

Butterfly and Sword, directed by Michael Mak, 1992

Mural (Huà Bì), directed by Gordon Chan, 2011. Based on Liao Zhai Zhi Yi, or Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio, a collection of nearly five hundred mostly supernatural tales written by Pu Songling (1640-1715) and published during the early Qing Dynasty.

The Sorcerer and the White Snake, directed by Ching Siu-tung, 2011 (previously known as It's Love and Madame White Snake). [Don't watch this video though because the last half-an-hour is missing! It's cheap enough to buy on Amazon under the title The Emperor and the White Snake. And it's well worth the effort!].

Flying Swords of Dragon Gate ('The new revised version of the 70s film Flying Dragon Gate Inn), directed by Tsui Hark, 2011

White Vengeance, directed by Daniel Lee Yan-Kong, 2011

Wu Dang, directed by Patrick Leung, 2012

League of Gods, directed by Koan Hui and Vernie Yeung, 2016. Based on the 16th-century Chinese novel Feng Shen Yan Yi (The Investiture of the Gods). [I watched this as well but the quality of the upload is so poor it is hard work reading the translation].

Time to Love, directed by Di Song, 2015
